Prof Pomar is currently the Deputy Director of the Thorax Institute of the Hospital Clinic of the Medical School at the University of Barcelona and is responsible for the Cardiac Transplantation Program and is the President of the Transplantation Committee. He is also Director and conducts all scientific aspects of the Cardiovascular Tissue Bank at the Transplant Services Foundation. Finally, he is the President of the Cardiovascular Tissue Committee of the Ministry of Health in Catalonia. For many years he was the Head of the Section of Adult Cardiac Surgery of the Hospital Clinic and Professor of Surgery and Vice-Dean for International Affairs of the Medical School at the University of Barcelona. He did his PhD on the experimental and clinical development of a new totally flexible ring for Mitral and Tricuspid Annuloplasty, today world wide known as the Medtronic Duran Ring. He is an active member of the most relevant scientific societies of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, including the American Association of Thoracic Surgery and the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Prof Pomar is member of the board of Advisors of the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the European heart Journal, The Journal of heart Valve Diseases, The Revista Espanola de Cardiologia, Cor Europeum, Cirrugia Cardiovascular and Cardiac Surgery Today. He published more than 200 articles and presented many papers in the most prestigious meetings all over the world. His most relevant papers refer to valve and organ transplants, valve repair and biomaterials. Prof Pomar was President of the Society of Cardiac Surgeons and Vice President of the European society for Cardiovascular Surgery. Moreover, Prof Pomar is Chairman of the Adult Cardiac Domain of the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery, where he is Councillor and member or the committee for the Exchange of Residents between the USA and Europe (through the AATS and EACTS). He is also member of the Board of directors of the European Heart Institute of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts of which he is Academic and Co-Director of the European Academy of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Today he is President Elect of the Society of Heart Valve Diseases.
