Dr Pillay qualified from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2005. Prior to specialising in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dr Pillay trained in general surgery and also has experience in trauma and critical care. He has specific interests in educational development for Cardiothoracic Surgery, Simulation, Surgery for heart failure, Surgery for drug resistant tuberculosis, and is passionate about community health.Dr Pillay is a key organiser of the National Hannes Meyer Registrar Symposium in Cardiothoracic Surgery 2018. The focus of this years symposium is Simulation as a curriculum adjunct in achieving educational goals in cardiothoracic surgery. The data obtained during this workshop is part of his doctoral research in the field.Dr Pillay currently works in Port Elizabeth where he has been instrumental in the rejuvenation of the Cardiothoracic Surgical department at Livingstone Tertiary Hospital.
